Worksheets and online exercises for your students
In LessonSolutions homework consists of two things: worksheets you share through the parent portal, and online exercises that a child does in that same portal and that are marked straight away. This guide covers both.
Sharing worksheets
- Go to Materials and click “Add a worksheet”. Choose a file: PDF, image, Word or text, up to 10 MB.
- Give it a name and link a student and, if you like, a subject. The portal shares through the child, so without a student it cannot be shared.
- Tick “Share with the parent right away”, or share it later from the list. The parent opens it in the portal under Worksheets.
- Sheets you use more often you put in your library once and link to a different student each time. You can see how much storage you are using.
Homework in the write-up
If you give something to take home, tick “Homework set” in the write-up. At the next lesson the software asks whether it was done, and that comes back in the monthly report: parents then read, for example, that the homework was finished three times out of four.
Creating an online exercise
- Go to Exercises and click “New exercise”. Choose the topic the result will be recorded under and give it a title, for example “7 times table”.
- Add questions. There are three kinds: short answer (checked against your answer; capitals and spaces do not matter), multiple choice (tick the right answer) and open question (which you read yourself).
- Save. Once a student has done the exercise it can no longer be changed; make a new version instead.
- Click “Set” and choose a student. The exercise is now in the parent portal under Exercises.
What the student and you see
The child does the exercise in the portal, on a tablet or phone, and hands it in. Multiple-choice and short answers are marked straight away: right, or wrong with the right answer alongside. Open questions wait for you. On the student's page and in the next write-up you see the score, and the result is recorded under the topic, so it counts towards where the child stands.
Online exercises come with Tutor and Plus. Sharing worksheets is possible on every plan.
Frequently asked questions
Can a student do an exercise twice?
An exercise that has been set is handed in once. If you want them to do it again, set it again.
Can parents see the answers?
Parents and child share the same portal, so yes: after it is handed in, they see what was right and what was not.
What happens to worksheets when I archive a student?
They stay in your library. The parent can no longer open the portal once you withdraw access.
